WELCOME TO THE "OFF EAGRY" (EAGRY GARDENS) WEB SITE
The Planning Process in Northern Ireland. Does it work? A case history.

LATEST January 2007 To see latest Enforcement issues hammered out.

In November 2003, the Planning Authority recommended, and Moyle District Council agreed, to the two Developments behind Eagry Park, Bushmills, Co. Antrim, to go ahead. (E/2001/0247/F and E/2001/0248/F). On the 29th June 2004 the Decision Notices were finally issued and we objectors received notification. That's over seven months after approval was given. So brace yourself for years of constant noise of building work from 8am every weekday. And when it’s all built, realise you have lost your countryside view and now have neighbours peering into your back rooms..

So many people objected and have taken a keen interest in the outcome of this development proposal that we thought it might be of interest for you to see a little of the negotiations and consultations (some still ongoing) which went behind this contentious plan. Hence this web site.

SHORT OF TIME? THEN I SUGGEST YOU READ JUST THE SUMMARY SECTION AND THE SECTION DEVOTED TO HOW PLANNERS AND DEVELOPER HAVE IGNORED THE GUIDELINES.

Because of so many different versions of Plans issued by the developer, we wrote to the Divisional Planning Manager on 18th March 2004 asking what Layout Plan/Drawing number was finally approved by Planning Service and taken to Moyle Council in November 2003? . We subsequently (7/4/04) received a reply stating the approved plan was drawing no. 02/55:02 (30th May 2003). See Differ
BUT THIS PLAN WAS NEVER PUBLICLY ADVERTISED AS AN AMENDED PLAN!

Have I got any details wrong? Or if you have anything you would like to add to this web site, or respond to a point made here about the "Off Eagry" development, then please don't hesitate to get in touch. This site is regularly being swapped about and updated so come back often to see what's changed or new.

Although these two plans- 0247 & 0248 - are separate applications, I am treating them as one for the purpose of this web site, as most of the correspondence quoted refers to them both and several of the plans submitted also show both applications as one. They do, after all, abut onto each other.

We have copies of all the letters and plans mentioned on this web site. They can be seen here at Number 32. All the layouts, plans and letters can also be seen (and copies taken) in the Planning Department at County Hall, Coleraine. Here is a note received from Planning Service in October 2002 :-

"The department has introduced a number of additional measures aimed at improving overall accessibility to the planning process, whereby any member of the public may request to see the application file and note progress. This means that all papers on file are open to the public including letters of support and objections”
Photos of plants which appear on this web site were taken in the fields scheduled for building.
Technical Note ; - The layout of most of these pages is narrow enough to be printed on A4 paper "portrait" mode, although many will run into more than one page. These pages can be printed in black and white without loss of any information. Set your printer to greyscale it will be faster and cheaper. Technical problems? email brian@eagry.com
