THE DEVELOPMENT OFF EAGRY now known as EAGRY GARDENS
THE MEDIA and lack of Press publicity.

Strangely, the proposal for this new development was never reported in the local press. Surely 66 new dwellings for Bushmills might have merited a mention?.

  • Especially when some of those 66 would be built in an area which is very near to a flood plain.(See Floods page)
  • Especially a construction site being built on fields which slope down to the banks of the unique stream that is the only supply of water for the Distillery. (See Distillery page)
  • Especially when some of those 66 new dwellings might, just might, be bought as Second Homes. (See Who Needs? page)
  • Especially when these houses are to border one of the main roads into/out of Bushmills and will have a profound visual impact on the " Gateway to the North Coast"
  • Especially when there are so many houses to be built that it might require an upgrading of Bushmills' sewage system downstream of the Main Street sewage junction (See Sewage page)
  • Especially when, in spite of 31 objections, the Moyle Council approved the development without any discussion whatsoever. (See Council page)
  • Especially when there is to be an "archaeological programme of works" carried out to investigate the whole site, as it is possible that archaeological remains associated with the battle at nearby Wine Hill including "human burials, [that] may survive within this application site" (See Archaeology page)
  • Especially when, assuming a conservative value of £100,000 each dwelling, this is a £6.6 million development for the village of Bushmills

Surely this merits a few lines in a local newspaper?

However to be fair, both local papers have since carried "Letters to the Editor" from us (21/04/04) alerting readers to the ongoing dispute about this planning application. They also printed the address of this web site.
