WRONG DETACHED HOUSE STYLE (Updated October 2006) |

The above photo is of a
detached house, the plans for which were submitted by the Developer
and approved by the Planning Service to be type MD96. But house type
MD96 should look like this artist's impression (below) superimposed
on what has been built (the transparent shape). Namely a smaller "footprint" with
an extension on the ground floor and smaller top floor. By making the
top storey smaller it would have brought it in line with the rest of
the backs of the houses in this row. As built, it protrudes several feet. |

| By the way the exterior finish for the above type of house (MD96) which
was submitted by the Developer and agreed by the Planning Service was to
be.." Fascias - Black, Walls - Yellow Facing Brick". |

| UPDATE Oct 2006. There has now been a new planning application for this dwelling as built. | |
| For what it's worth here are my thoughts.. This is a corner site and
because of its location should be an important key design. But what has
been built is a big square grey lump, (see top photo) the only detail in
its favour being a bay window and a little porch roof over the front door
(neither of which can be seen in above graphics). We rely on the Planning Service to be the guardian of good design, and I will be interested in their reaction and response to this application to retain this monolithic grey mass. I assume “design” was why they approved the original proposal, type MD96, which included an interesting rear ‘ground floor extension‘ (I don‘t know the correct architectural term). So are they happy that the developer has dropped this feature in order to increase the square footage? I am not. I estimate the floor space has now been increased by approximately 194 sq ft. (See transparent section of above sketch) |
