ENFORCEMENT |
|
SOME POINTS TO PONDER ABOUT ENFORCEMENT |
| "There are a total of 43 enforcement officers for Northern Ireland.
Of these, there are 9.5 for the Coleraine/Londonderry area". (Angela
Smith answering Peter Robinson. Westminster Nov 2005) Presumably that
.5 is an officer flitting between two areas, |
3.1 "The Department
will pursue cases involving alleged unauthorised development, and
any resulting enforcement action, without undue delay."
Planning Policy
Statement 9 The Enforcement of Planning Control Pub March 2000 |
|
"Enforcement
action....is often a long and complicated procedure and lengthy
periods of time can be involved before a case is satisfactorily
resolved"
Letter
from Coleraine Sub Divisional Planning Office |
|
| And after a list of key objectives for planning enforcement, comes the
statement:- |
1.3 "It is essential that the Department
strives to secure these objectives, otherwise the credibilty and
integrity of the planning system will be undermined."

|
| It looks as if, in 1996, the Planning Service were contemplating using
the private sector to enforce decisions. |
|
Section 8 Paragraph 58 (dealing with targets) "Enforcement:-
An assesment of the potential for use of the private sector in
pursuing breaches of Development Control to be completed by 31
March 1997"
