DRESS REHEARSAL | |
And here is photo of "my" walls taken during a dress rehearsal. By the way I overpainted that ugly splurge at the base of the rostrum for the public performances. The mottled texture of the floors I obtained by using a long handled paint roller and blended my base coat, whilst still wet, with a darker and lighter version. This texture is so much more interesting than a plain colour - and it stops the scuff marks being seen too! Psst - you can just see the opened doors on the right.
"MY" CANALETTO of Venice.

And here's my version of a Canaletto painting. I wanted something long to fit into this panel to take the bareness off the wall and form a point of interest. I chose this particular well known version of the bridge, as a bridge symbolised the Jekyll and Hyde story (I cannot imagine any of the audience working this out but you and I know the reason!). This acrylic painting took me about an hour. The nearest audience was about 40 feet away so there was no need to do any detail. Once finished I did a silly thing. I have a varnish which supposedly gives a crackle finish, so I covered the painting with a thin layer of that. Unfortunately it didn't work and just left a glossy surface. So glossy that the lights are reflected in it (hence the photo taken at an angle) . The varnish was water soluble so during rehearsal I waited with mop in hand to wash it off if the reflections were too bad. However this remedy was not needed.
