"THE SNUG" An inset scene composed of two 6 foot wide flats hinged together to make a bookflat. (5ltr. paint tin for scale) Where they join, I put on a strip of canvas glued and stapled down the back to stop light spilling through. I did this when they were shut together. A trompe l'oeil painting. Where the flats meet the floor gives the game away that all the 3D effects are painted on. The cutting out of the brickwork with a power jigsaw makes for interesting profile edges. There is to be a practical bar in front of this piece so I didn't bother painting in the bottom of the barrels correctly because they will not be seen.
