THE CASTLE CORRIDOR (With coach emerging)
Note how the coach appears to emerge through the wall.
The walls of this scene were deliberately painted with thick black lines and lots of shadows. The suit of armour had a shadow as did the picture. The trick was that some of the shadows were real shadows. The armour's shadow was painted but the shadows made by the picture and the stone blocks near the picture were real. For there was a slit in the scenery and a four inch gap between the foreground flat and the back (upstage) flat.
