SCENERY PAINTING FOR THE AMATEUR MUSICAL THEATRE and PANTOMIME
A CHRISTMAS CAROL page one
Designed and painted by Brian Willis
Performed by Doctors and nurses at the Coleraine Hospital (1991)
This was an interesting project. One Christmas the Doctors and nurses put on their version of "A Christmas Carol" for the bed-bound patients in one of the hospital wards. They sewed three bed sheets together and we hung this cloth on a wire stretched across the ward, then weighed it down with heavy fence posts nailed along the bottom. I sealed it with a mixture of PVA glue, water and emulsion paint and when it had dried overnight it made a wonderful taught cloth on which to paint.
Poor quality photo as the light was insufficient. That's a real wooden fireplace-surround borrowed for the occasion. Everything you see was painted on the cloth (apart from fireplace)
