The Terrace Near the Beach. The buildings, palm trees, foreground foliage and left pillar in the background are all painted on a hardboard groundrow. Donald (the designer) gave me a photo of this actual boulevard from which to work. The ball and balustrade on the right is also a trompe l'oeil painted on the same groundrow. But that's a practical step and a separate front piece with a three dimensional ball and balustrade on downstage . That's why the ball looks a little smaller than the upstage one! |
